History and Symptoms

We discuss any issues you might have with your eyesight and general health as many eye conditions are health related. We discuss your work and leisure activities to assess your visual needs. This is sometimes done in the form of a Lifestyle Questionnaire, often carried out by the dispensing staff.

Eyewear Assessment

At Hallcroft Opticians, we ensure that any current prescription is still suited to your needs. If you wear glasses or contact lenses, we check them to see if they are still suitable for your vision and can arrange for a renewal or a change of prescription to ensure that your eye care is fit for purpose.

This part of your examination finds out whether you need optical lenses to correct your eyesight. We test distance vision (for driving or TV), near vision (for reading) and intermediate vision (for hobbies or computer vision). This gives peace of mind that you will get the required treatment.

Oculomotor Balance

Ensuring that all aspects of your eye care needs are met, we check that your eye muscles are co-ordinated and you have comfortable vision at all distances and ensure that any changes are always suitably accounted for, efficiently and at an affordable price for everybody.

Intraocular Pressure

Too much pressure inside your eyes can indicate glaucoma, a disease which eventually leads to blindness if left untreated. This test is usually only carried out on people over 40 or those with a history of glaucoma disease in the family.

Visual Field Test

Losing your field of vision is one of the main signs of glaucoma, so where appropriate we check your all-round vision and peripheral eyesight and can offer sound advice where needed, ensuring peace of mind, leaving you without any undue worry.

This is a very important part because it evaluates the health of your eyes. Conditions such as diabetes, cataracts, hypertension and macular degeneration can be detected and monitored by an eye examination and can be treated appropriately.

Pupil Reflexes

Any sign of unusual pupil reflex may indicate neurological problems, so at Hallcroft Opticians, we check that your pupils react normally to light. We can offer sound advice and quick reactions to any potential life changing issues that may occur.

Easy Scan Examination

Using the latest retinal imaging technology we can take detailed images of the retina at the back of your eye. This test allows the optometrist to detect; age related macular degeneration (AMD), Glaucoma and Diabetic Retinopathy. Also a range of other conditions for example diabetes, high blood pressure and high cholesterol. We do not usually need to use drops for this test and it only takes a few minutes to perform. The Easy Scan can often detect anomalies which an optometrist may not easily detect with a hand held instrument.  Once the scan has been performed the images will be stored on our computer which will allow us to monitor the health of your eyes. More importantly any and early signs of change can result in the early detection of such diseases as AMD
